Immigrational Timeline-Ellis Island

  • My Birthday!

    My Birthday!
I was born on December 12, 1830 into a family that had nothing. As the youngest I was left at home alone while everyone else was working at the factories. As a child, I was usually always hungry. We never had enough food or money. I want to leave this place for those reasons. America has food and job opporutunites. My purpose for writing this is because I think I should share my story.
  • Gets on boat to Ellis Island

I have decided to take myself, my wife, and our two kids to America. We got on a giant boat this morning. He had to travel a little ways to Hamburg so we ould catch the boat. The boat is filled to the top with Europeans. There is little food on here and it smells and there is a lack of air. However, we know we are going to a great place so we overlook all that. The next time we see land, it will be American land.
  • See's The Statue of Liberty

    See's The Statue of Liberty
We have finally arrived in America! The first thing everyone was looking for when we docked the boat was The Statue of Liberty. It was magnificent; it made the long boat ride worth it. It took a long time to go through immigration and the doctors and all. My wife got sent back to Germany because she had a cold. I don't know what I will do with the kids and myself. I am very sad.
  • Gets a home for family

When my children and I got off the boat we were greeted by a very pleasent man. He offered us some money and took us to an acceptable home in a nice neighborhood. All of this for free, if we voted for him on some sort of council when electon times rolls around. It was a very easy decicion and we now have a house of our own. I knew America would be wonderful but I never imagined a free home all to ourselves! I know we can trust him and he has greatly helped us since my wife died.
  • Gets a job

For the past month or so my family has been living off the money Boss Tweed gave us. Right when we were running low he came knocking on our door and offered me a job builing skyscrapers; the new thing. It is a very dangerous job but the pay will greatly benefit my family. I will have to climb many, many stories with nothing holding me up. I start right away tomorrow. I hope someone will be kind enough to teach me.
  • Finds out Boss Tweed is bad

Some other families and I have been talking about Boss Tweed lately and we have been hearing that he is cheating people out of their money. He is using money people give him for his own personal use. He uses it for drink for himself and his little followers. We have come to the conclusion that we will not be taking anything else from him or give him anything. We will not be voting for him.
