After four monthes of being in America we had learned a lot more English and were trying find some jobs to earn money for the trip west. From what we saw there weren't a lot of Irish but there were some in the city, and they were very helpful in finding jobs for us, since most people didn't hire Irish. When we found jobs we piled our money together every time we got paid, to see when we could go west.

The horses were bucking and throwing a lot of people off. Once the cannon rang out the horses jolted forward and began to run toward the new land.
