We were on the boat for two weeks. We had never been on a boat so big and crowded. We started learning English, and we were always one of the first in line for food ans water every day.
-
Everyone was crowding to see land for the first time in about two weeks. First and second class got off first. We stood in a long line to exchange Yen for American dollars. We also bought supplies.
-
We took two horses and a carraige from New York to Boston. My parents were planning on buying land and sending my younger brother and I to school.
-
When we arrived in Boston, my father and mother attempted to purchase land but there wasn't any for sale. They also tried to put us in a school but none nearby took in Chinese.
-
We planned on buying land out in the Great Plains. My mother planned on homeschooling us. No schools were allowing Chinese students in Boston, either.
-
The Chinese Exclusion Act was just passed. This means that Chinese immirants are banned from immigrating for ten years. We are saving up to move to Wyoming. People are beginning to ignore us. My parents are also getting paid less at work.
-
We are now buying more supplies, food, and tools on the road. We've just left Boston and are heading for Wyoming. We're currently passing through the mountains. The going is hard but we try to never give up and keep going no matter what happens.
-
We're in Missouri, stopping to restock our supplies. One of our horses, Timber, has just passed away from disease. We don't know what disease it was, but I just hope that no one else catches it. We bought a new horse to replace Timber.
-
We finally made it out of Nebraska! We also bought a 200 acre plot of land which we plan on using for farming, housing, and also growing animals. My parents want to make it so we only rely on others for things like cotton, paper, and ink, but everything else they want to grow themselves.
-
We're almost settled down. My brother and father have finished building the house and barn, and they're presently setting up the fences. My mother and I have been riding the horses around, getting in touch with the neighbors. We've already learned some valuable farming skills. We're having the Smith family over for lunch tomorrow.
