Birth Of Zora (Mue) Bauer
Today was the day that I, Zora (Mue) Bauer was born. I grew up with three older brothers, my mother, and father. We were a close family as young children, but we later grew a part from each other. -
Life Before
My family and I are Germans and we are moving to America in the next couple months. We are moving because Germany has been getting attacked by armies of various nationalities. We have to get away because my oldest son was killed by one of them. We also didn't want our whole family to be killed therefore that is why we are moving. -
Arriving at Ellis Island
The trip to Ellis island was not pleasant. We were packed on a tight ship with other German immigrants my family was impatient. Arriving at Ellis island was where we had to be checked for everything. We waited in long lines until we could be sent off the island. My family was going to live in the state of Pennsylvania for a while. -
In Pennsylvania
We are finally in America. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state to live at. My family and I are working in packaging factories. The factories are making us work long hours. For our benefit this helps us to make more money in the long run. We have to start low to become farmers with land ownership. -
Living Conditions
Today was the worst we had to move out of the apartment we were living at. We moved down the street to a place where the floors were fifthly and the rooms were wreaked. I cleaned everything up to make it almost new again, and so my family would not get sick. -
Sucess from Working
My family has invested the money from working in factories to buy land and start farming. We made a lot of money because we worked for long hours. We wanted to have money fast so we wouldn’t have to work for someone else for so long. -
Moving West
We thought that we could have a better farming and crops in the West. We were in Missouri now and had jobs working on a farm and taking care of crops to get the feel for farming. -
Farm House
On the farm we have been selling many crops. We are able to start expanding on to our house for more rooms to have space. This will helps us to live the life we wanted. -
Realizing
The house is finished our lives have changed so much in the past years. Our family has grown to have respect for one another. The family job has be well the season is almost over and we have to start freezing crops for the winter. I am glad to be here instead of Germany because we would have never be able to live the life we live today.
