    Me and family left Italy because we are in poverty and we need a better future. We hope to gain a house and enough money for needs. The purpose of this autobiography is to give my experience as an immagrant that came from Ellis Island.
  • In Italy

    In Italy
    Location: Palermo, Italy. My father and my mother haven't been having the best finacial luck so they are debating if we should go to America. Life in Palermo is tough, there isn't a lot to do and we don't have much. Ameroca seems to be bringing fortune for others so maybe we will go. We trekked hundreds of miles across Italy to get to seaport, when we finally there we boarded a steamship.

    Boarding to Ellis Island
    We were tagged with information from the ships registery and passed through long lives for mediacal and legal inspections. All of my family passed and were fit to enter into the U.S. The trip across the oceans lasted a few weeks. Us steerage, the 3rd class were put in a large open space at the bottom of the ship. There were a lot of divese people with many different religions.

    We were put in this room called "The Great Hall". We sat on benches and were further reviewed. Twenty nine questions were asked to each of us. After e were finished we followed many people up this staircase that had 3 aisles. We walked on the west side because we were heading north. We made it to the " Kissing Post" and met my grandparents that we haven't seen in a while.

    After we arrived is America, we went with out grand parents to thier home in New Jersey. They had a small but beautiful home. I was so happy. My father immediatly started looking through magazines to find places to find jobs and make money. The journey to America wasn't that hard. We were very lucky to pass everything. I'm so happy for the oppurtunities awaiting for me and my family.

    The ships were crowded and dirty. My parents were very tired when we arrived in NY. The first thing we saw when we stepped off the boat, was the Statue of Liberty. We were checked for diseases, which were not found. A smaller boat was brought that we had to board to go to Ellis Island. We were confused by the directions of the officers because we didn't know English
