    An effort by congress to defuse the sectional and political rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri in late 1819 for admission as a state in which slavery would be permitted. This was the North vs South.

    The best known United States policy towards the Western Hemisphere. The Doctrine separates the new world from the autocratic realm of Europe.

    a phrase that meant US was destined (by god) to expand its dominion and spread democracy and capitalism across the entire North American continent.

    An army was sent to Texas to protect it from Mexico. America requested land around Texas and Mexico refused. Mexico lost the war and gave America the land they requested which extended the land.

    Ended the two year war between Mexico and America in favor of the United States. Expanded the US territory by adding an additional 525,000 square miles.
