The Summit series was a hockey tornament played between Canada's NHL players and the Soviet Union in September of 1971-1972.
This kind of event had never happened before and given that it existed during the Cold War it made it even more unique.
During the eight day event both teams battled, half the games were played in Canada the other half in Moscow.

John Turner was appointed Prime Minister and party leader taking over for Pierre Trudeau. During English debate the election was decided. Brian Mulroney nailed Turner on patranige and corruption. In response Turner defendied himself by saying he had "no option"
The end result was that the PC' won 211, the Liberals won 40, the NDP won 30, and Markham Tony Roman won an Independent seat. -
On May 15,1985 Ian Kirk Sutherland was elected Markham District High School Student Vice-President. During his tenure he designed the official MDHS logo. He also approved and chose the MDHS school jackets. These were the first issued school jackets since 1968. He also worked with all of the school clubs, organizations and sports teams to help improve human relations between staff and students.

The Oka Crisis was a argument/dispute over land, in Quebec.The town of Oka wanted to build on the land of the Mohawk. The town wanted to expand a golf course. The Mohawks didn't want them building on their land! The dispute was between the police, army and the Mohawk protesters. It ended on September 11, 1990.
