  • Rise of the Kingdom of Sumer

    It started about 2500 BCE. The seven characteristic of Sumer is stable food supply, social structure, government, religion, culture/arts, technology, and writing/ language. Sumer was located in Mesopotamia. Sumerian government was based on a monarchy. Sumerians believed their kings established rule through divine right. Some a major accomplishment that achieve was irrigation, the wheel, cuneiform, etc.
  • The Epic of Gilgamesh

    The date of the exact writing was unknown. But, it as discovered in the 7th century BCE royal library. Gilgamesh was king of Uruk. He was a very strong ruler. The Gods wanted to create a friend for Gilgamesh, named Enkidu. Enkidu and Gilgamesh starts off with a battle, but over time, they became close friends. They went on a journey to the Cedar Forest to fight Humbaba to cut down the trees so he can build a gate. When they both killed the Bull of Heaven, one of them must die. Enkidu was killed.
  • Abraham

    It began around 1900 BCE. Abraham lived in Ur, a city in Mesopotamia. The God command him to move to a different place and move to Israel. Abraham had to sacrifice his son for the God. Abraham is important because had faith in the God.
  • Hammurabi's Code

    It was created approximately in 1792-1750 BCE. Hammurabi is the king of Babylon. He wrote the first set of laws. He lived in the southern part of Mesopotamia. Most of his code was about property, family, and personal injuries law. HIs code mention some punishments and consequences that people back then will have to face if they broke one of the code. One law that is important is "If a man strike a free-born woman so that she lose her unborn child, he shall pay ten shekels for her loss".
  • Joseph goes to Egypt and the Israelites follow

    Approximately 1700-1280 BCE. Joseph was the son of Jacob (Jacob is the grandson of Abraham). Joseph had to go to Egypt because he was sold to a slaveowner and the slaveowner carried him to Egypt. When Joseph was in Egypt, the Pharoah asked him to tell his dream and he did it so well that he became the prime minister. The Israelites joined him because a famine hitted Palestine. All Jewish babies were forced to be killed. But Moses' mother floated hm down a river.

    Approximately 1280-1240 BCE.Moses was an Israelite.Moses was the one to tell the Pharoah to let his people go.He divide the Red Sea so he can lead the Jews to the Sinai Peninsula.He is important becasue he is a hero to the Jews and he saved them.The Exodus was the departure of the Israelites from Egypt.During the Exodus the Israelites followed Moses.The Ten Commandments was on 2 stone tablets received by Moses.The 1st 4 is related to the topic of God.The last 6 is about killing,adultery,lie,etc.

    Exact date:Approx.middle of 13th century-middle of 11th century BCE.Deborah was a judge in Israel.She was also a prophetess.she was famous because she is the only woman of the Hebrew Bible who gained renown on her own merit.Obstacle in her life was that she was able to foresee both the victory over Israel’s enemy, and the way to achieve it.Ruth was a Moabite who married a Hebrew husband. When her husband died,her mother in law told her to move but she refused to.She wanted2 take care of her mom
