  • General Estates Meeting

    Included three estates that were made up of nobles, clergy, and peasants, that were brought together becuase of a political problem.

    Revolution

  • Fall of Bastille

    Angry crowd marched to the Bastille prison fighting off the troops and successfully took down Bastille. The Fall of Bastille was imporant becuase it was one of the causes of the French Revolution.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    The peasants who were the Third Estate were locked out of the meeting and formed their own National Assembly on a tennis court. This was important because it put a stop to belief in political matters.
  • Rights of Man

    A declaration that was written and it said that men were equal under law. This is imporant becuase it gives the French people freedom of speech, and freedom of religion.
  • March on Versailles

    A crowd of protested who broke into the quaters of Queen Marie demanding bread and bringing the King back to Paris. This event balanced out power of high authority.
  • France At War

    France declared war on Austria, Prussia joined Austria. In August, Autrian and Prussia armies were moving forward to Paris. September, France defeated Duke of Brunswick, the Prussia Commander. This effected France because it causes food shortages and high prices.
  • National Convention

    November, the National Convention said they found letters written by the king plotting to crush the revolution with emigres. King Louis XVI was convicted of treason and put to death by the guillotine. King Louis XVI's execution caused people to fear the spread of the revolution.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror was led by Maximilien Robespierre who wanted to create a Republic of Virtue. Over 40,000 men, childern, and women were put to death by the guillotine including Queen marie and nobles. The Reign of Terror had a negative effect on the French people becuase iot put a fear inside of them.
  • The Directory

    A new government established by the Constitution. It included an elected legislaturem and an executive branch. The directory started to have problems with corrupt deputies and political favors.
  • The Napoleonic Code

    This was a law that brought together reforms of the reolvution and guaranteed freedom of religion and a persons right to work in any occupation. The Napoleonic Code was imporant becuase it unified the legal system.
