The Egyptians were the earliest people to keep accurate records. The physicians were the persist they used medicine to heal diseases. They also would use leeches to drain some of their blood as a healing process. -

Ancient Greeks
Ancient Greeks thought of healing people as an art. They had sacred temples of healing. They were the first to study the difference between a natural illness vs a spiritual illness. They kept records on this to figure out how they were supposed to heal these people based on how they got their illness. Dissections were not allowed. Hippocrates the father of knowledge did many observations on the human body. He took many notes on signs and symptoms of diseases. He took an oath still used today. -

Their sanitation systems were using something called a death mask. It protected them from infection and bad odors. The first to have organized medical care. Their hospital was in physicians homes they had to have a room with all their tools to help people. -

This caused millions of deaths to happen. The plague killed tons of people. There was also smallpox, diphtheria, syphilis, and tuberculosis. These obviously are not life threatening like they were back then because these now can be treasured by vaccines. -

Discovered a vaccination for smallpoxs. His discover saved millions of people from smallpoxs. This discovery also helped immunization and to prevent mediocre in public health. -

Invented the first stethoscope it was made out of wood. It helped hear someone’s heart beat and their lungs as well. This helped doctors to determine if a disease was present. -

Ignaz Semmelweis
Discovered the cause for childbed fever. A ton of women died after giving birth. Ignaz Semmelweis figured out it was because they had fevers and it was killing them. People never used to wash their hands while do surgeries, so they would infect these women that were giving birth. Ignaz Semmelweis studies were proven correct so everyone had to start washing their hands. -
Louis Pasteur
He was known as the father of microbiology. Through his discovers he found out microorganisms cause diseases. He discovered the heating of milk prevented the growth of bacteria. He also created a vaccine for rabies. -
Dmitri Ivanoski
Discovered that some disease are not able to be seen with a microscope. He did find out these are viruses, but these viruses weren’t studied until the electron microscope was created. -
Joseph Lister
Learned from Pasteurs discovery that microorganisms cause infections. By using carbolic acid on wounds it would kill germs that caused those infections. He was the very first doctor to use an antiseptic which prevents infection when incision are being made. -
Ernst von Bergman
He devolved a method to keep an area germ free before and during surgery from the use of Josephs and Louis’s research. He name of his method is asepsis. -
Robert Koch
Robert introduced being clean to prevent the spread of disease. He discovered many disease causing organisms. Developed something called th culture plate method it identifies pathogens, and isolates the bacterium that’s causes tuberculosis. -
Paul Ehrlich
He figured out a treatment that was effective against some microorganisms, but not effective on killing other bacterias. While trying to treat syphilis he completed 606 experiments. On the 606th experiment he found a treatment that worked. -
Wilhelm Roentgen
Discovered X-rays in 1895. He even was the first person to take pictures using an X-ray. With this discovery he helped doctors see inside the human body. This helped the doctors figure out what was wrong with their patients. -
Anesthesia
Anesthesia helps with pain, and putting patients to sleep safely. Before there was such thing as anesthesia they used herbs and alcohol to prevent pain during the surgery. They would even choke patients until they passed out. -

Found out that penicillin killed life threatening bacteria. The discovery of penicillin was known to be one of the most important discoveries in the 20th century. Before penicillin tons of people died from things like pneumonia, gonorrhea, and blood poisoning. These are things that are cure able today. -

He studied psychology, and when the body is conscious and unconscious parts of the mind. This helped with the understanding of psychosomatic illness. -

Found out that dead polio virus would cause immunity to poliomyelitis. This virus was paralyzing thousands of people. -

This is something that was used to restore DNA to their normal function. So if someone had a genetic condition it could be fixed.
