The case of Lemon v. Kurtzman was filed by Alton Lemon, a Pennsylvania instructor who claimed that Pennsylvania violated the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution because the Constitution does not allow the establishment of any state laws or legislation that combine the interests of religious people with the interests of the state’s population. The ruling was in favor of Lemon.

In Texas, public schools were financed primarily through a system whereby property taxes were imposed by local school districts. Because property values were higher in some districts, than in others, substantial disparities across districts in per pupil spending arose. The disparities in spending among public school children triggered a Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection challenge to the constitutionality of the system. Ruling was that is wasn't unconstitutional.

After a student (“TLO”) was caught smoking cigarettes in school, she was confronted by the vice principal, who forced the student to hand over her purse. The vice principal then searched her purse, found drugs; the student was eventually charged with multiple crimes and expelled from the school. Her lawyer argued that the evidence should not have been admissible in court because it violated the student’s 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. Ruling was in NJ favor.
