    Congress approved the last text of the Declaration of Independence. Independence was declared on July 2, 1766. It wasn't signed until August 2, 1766.

    On April 30, 1803, the United States purchased land from the French. The United States purchased 828,000 square miles for 15 million dollars. This land was west of the mississippi.

    Lewis and Clark made a journey west to explore the Louisiana Territory. Thomas Jefferson appointed them to explore it.

  • The Attack on Fort Sumter

    General P.G.T. Beauregard, in command of the Confederate Forces around Charleston Harbor, opened fired on Fort Sumter. On April 13 Major Robert Anderson, garrison commander, surrendered.

    He was born on August 24, 1960. He retired on October 6, 2001. Cal Ripken Jr. holds the baltimore Orioles records for games played, at bats, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBI's, and extra base hits.
