The Louisiana Purchase
In 1803 Thomas Jefferson wanted to expand the nation however he didn't want to go to war for land because they didn't have enough money for war. France, the country who owned the Louisiana territory, was having trouble managing their other land of territory and was in war. France was running out of money and supplies and couldn't go into to another war while fighting one. So France sold Thomas Jefferson the Louisiana territory for about 3 cents per acre. -
Texas Revolution
Mexico opened up their land to American settlers. The settlers were mad at Mexico because they didn't want to be taxed. So they went to war with Mexico. At first the texan colonists lost and the Mexican army spared the women and children. However when the colonist went to war with Mexico again the Texans won and became their own country. They later joined the United States and became a state. -
