  • Enlightenment

    Enlightenment
    Also known as "The Age Of Reason" when philosophers or "thinkers" spread new ideas.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    A war started by the thrid estate that's goal was to equal the estates, change the government, and overthrow the king and queen.
  • National Assembly

    National Assembly
    After argueing about the structure of the Estates-General, the third estate created their own seperate meeting called the "National Assembly". Their goal was to give rights to those in the third estate and write a new constitution.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The National Assembly was locked out of it's usual meeting place by the other estates. The estates were hoping that by locking the third estate out, the National Assembly would no longer be able to continue meeting. Instead, the National Assembly broke into a nearby tennis court and took an oath call "The Tennis Court Oath" to keep meeting until a new constitution was created.

    Creation of the Declaration of the Rights of Man
    A constitution created by the National Assembly that states all the individual and collective rights of men and citizens. The declaration is influenced by Enlightenment ideas, including those of John Locke and his ideas about "Natural Rights".
  • Haitian Revolution

    Haitian Revolution
    A slave revolt partially inspired by the French Revolution, that's purpose was to end slavery. It led to the formation of The Republic Of Haiti. This was considered to be one of the most sucessful slave revolts and a emorable point in the histories of America and France.

    Boukman Revolt
    A revolt by Dutty Boukman similar to the Haitian Revolution but smaller. Dutty Boukman was a Jamaican born Haitian slave and like other slaves was into Voodoo. He was a major player in the Haitian Revolution.
  • The Reign Of Terror

    The Reign Of Terror
    Maximilien Robespierre's rule and nicknamed "The Reign Of Terror" becuase of the thousands of people he killed under his rule. Robespierre looked to be a promising leader after Louis XVI, but after he formed the Comitee Of Public Safety, things went downhill. The Commitee Of Public Safety killed anyone unloyal to the French People by Guillotine, but everyone soon became suspects and there was a lot of death. In the end Maximilien Robespierre was killed by the weapon he had used to kill others.

    Rise Of Napoleon
    Napoleon, a military and political leader, took power in a Coup d'etate and overthrew the Directery. He then became emperor of France. Little did the people of France know that he would be the cause of many wars and eventually the downfall of France.
  • War Of Knives

    War Of Knives
    This was a conflict between Toussaint L'Ouverture and Andre Riguad. Fought over control of Haiti after deafeating foreign forces. Riguad took his final stand on Jacmel, but fell to Toussaint, and was exiled to France.
  • Creation of the Haitian Constitution of 1801

    Creation of the Haitian Constitution of 1801
    The constitution abolished slavery and racial restrictions on employment. Banned free assembly, all religions other than Catholicism, and divorce. Toussaint was made govener for life and was allowed to choose his sucessor. (Other goveners were only allowed to rule 5 years).

    A war between France, Spain, United Kingdom, and Portugal. The war lasted until Napoleon was defeated by the Sixth Coalition. This war became one of the first examples of large Guerilla-Warfare.

    Berlin Conferance
    Regulated European colonization and trade in Africa during the new Imperialsim period. called on representatives of Austria-Hungary, Belgium, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden-Norway, the Ottoman Empire, and the United States to take part in the Berlin Conference to work out policy.

    The Congress Of Vienna included some of the most important people from Austia, Britain, Prussia, and France. The goal of the Congress of Vienna was to restore old boundries, resize the powers so they could balance each other out, and remain in peace.

    The Industrial revolution was the transition to manufacturing products and goods. Some new inventions included the Steam Engine, Water power, Quinine, and the Maxim gun. Mnay people from farms came to work in factories and soon cities became overpopulated and digusting until the cities learned how to deal with the massive increase of people.
