  • Period: 499 BCE to 449 BCE

    Persian wars

    The significance of Persian wars was that the Persian wanted to conquer Greece to take revenged Athens that caused one of their colonies to rebel against its Persian's rules. The Persian tried to conquer Greece 3 times but ultimately failed. The first battle, Battle of Marathon where Greek fought in Phalanx formation. The second battle, Battle of Thermopylae where Spartans found a secret passageway through the mountain. The last battle, Battle of Salamis where Greek sink 1/3 of Persian's fleet.

    Golden Age of Athens

    The significance of the Golden Age of Athens is that the Delian league helped the growth of economics in Greece and developed its culture such as theatre, architecture, art philosophy and democracy which was flourished by Pericles. The Delian League, led by Athens, helped Greece by not allowing the city-states that are in the membership to not leave even if there's no more threat and forced them to pay the membership fees. Those city-states that leave will be punished and put in slaves.

    Delian League

    The significance of the ​Delian League is that it protects Greece from getting attacked by the Persian again. It was led by the Athens who are very wealthy and powerful after winning the Persian Wars. The Athens built a big and strong group of the navies. They also wanted other city-states to join so they forced them and bullied them because they can take fees from them which is called the. membership fees to make Athenian even more wealthy. Another reason was to control those city-states.
  • Period: 431 BCE to 404 BCE

    The Peloponnesian War

    Peloponnesian War is the fight between Sparta and Athens where Sparta shows the opposition of the Delian League that Athens led. Spartan applied that Athens treated the people and other city-states harshly with the League rules, so they wanted to stop the league. while they are in the war, Athens undergo plague which caused 1/3 of its population to die. Spartans wins the wars. The war weakened Greece. Greece then got conquered by Phillip the II of Macedonia.
