    The Persian War

    The Persian War was the war between Persian Empire and Greece. Athens won the Battle of Marathon with phalanx at Marathon. The second battle is Battle of Thermopylae.Persians found a secret passage around the mountain pass and won the battle. Last battle is Battle of Salami and Greeks sink 1/3 of Persian fleet. The significance of this war is that Greece is liberated from the threat of Persians and Athens became very wealthy and powerful as the leader of Delian League.

    Golden Age of Athens

    Athens became very wealthy and powerful as the leader of the Delian League after Persian War. Art was developed during this time. Athens had 3 different types of columns, and they invented tragedy and comedy which are different genres of theater. During the Golden Age, Pericles was the leader. He increased democracy, created the strongest navy, and built Parthenon. The significance of Golden Age is that the Golden Age caused Peloponnesian War since Athens became too powerful during this time.

    Peloponnesian War

    Athens punished the city-state that leave the Delian League and conquered them as slaves. Sparta created the Peloponnesian League to counter the Delian League. Pericles, who is the leader of Athens, tried to protect the citizens, but Sparta finally won the war. The significance of Peloponnesian War is that both Sparta and Athens are so weakened by this war so that later, Philip the 11 easily conquers Greece.

    Alexander the Great Conquers the Greece and the Persian Empire
    After the Greek city-states were weakened by the Peloponnesian Wars, Philip the 11 who is the king of Macedonia conquered the Greece. Alexander the Great, the son of Philip the 11, was well educated and well trained. After Philip the 11 died, Alexander the Great conquers the Greece and the Persian Empire. The significance of this event is that after the Alexander the Great died, his empire was split up between his generals.
