    The Persian Wars

    The Persian Empire was the most powerful empire of its time. After the Athenians helped colonies in Anatolia rebel against Persians rule, the Persians decided to try and conquer Greece. The war consisted of three battles, two of which, the Greeks won against, despite their disadvantage in numbers. The Greeks impressive victory in the Persian war made Athens become very wealthy and powerful. It was also the first time that the Greek colonies worked together against the common enemy.
  • Period: 479 BCE to 431 BCE

    The Golden Age of Athens

    After their victory in the Persian War, Athens became very wealthy as they created the Delian league, which means that they will protect the other Greek colonies if they paid them taxes. They increased democracy, created the strongest navy and and made Athens beautiful. They loved the theatre and lived well, as they were in the epitome of their civilization. The Golden age is significant because Athens built new and beautiful things that are essential to Greek culture.
  • Period: 431 BCE to 404 BCE

    Peloponnisian War

    After the effects of the Persian war, Athens became very powerful and created the Delian League, which is an alliance between the colonies as long as they pay taxes. Sparta didn't like this and rebelled against Athens, creating the Peloponnesian league. Sparta put Athens was under siege and defeated them but their victory was short lived. Soon after, Philip II defeated both weakened poli that even the mighty Persian empire couldn’t conquer and significantly ended the famous Greek civilization.

    Alexander the Greats Riegn

    After his father Philip II died, Alexander became king at the age of 20. After his coronation, Alexander did many impressive things, taking after his father, eventually taking over the mighty Persian empire. He was well educated and trained, who had already travelled with his father on military expeditions. His main achievement was that he conquered the Persian empire, the largest empire of their time as well as most of the known world at the time. This had never been done before in history.
