    The Persian Wars

    The Persian Empire tried to conquer Greece 3 times,but failed all three.The Persian Empire wanted revenge because of rebel against Persian rule.Battle of Marathon(1st), Greeks won by using the Phalanx formation.Battle of Thermopylae(2nd), Greeks united to stop Xerxes from taking Athens.Spartans held Thermopylae at a mountain pass for 3 days but eventually lost.Battle of Salamis(3rd), Greeks sink 1/3 of Persian fleet.Greeks won the Persian Wars and Greece is liberated from the threat of Persians.

    Golden Age of Athens

    A time where Athens became very wealthy and powerful as leader of the Delian League. Perciles was leader of Athens during the Golden Age. He increased democracy, created the strongest navy and made Athens beautiful. Art and Theater was very important during this Age. There were Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns and Tragedy and Comedy plays.

    Peloponnesian War

    The reason of this war is because of Athens becoming too powerful. They would punish city-states that leave the Delian League by conquering them. At this time Sparta created the Peloponnesian League. Pericles, leader of Athens, brings all citizens behind the city's wall for protection. Then plague hits and 1/3 of the population dies, including Pericles. Sparta wins the war, but both city-states are so weakened that Phillip the ll easily conquers Greece. Thucydides wrote about this war.
  • Period: 356 to 323

    Alexander's Empire

    After the Greek city-states were weakened from the Peloponnesian Wars, Phillip the ll, King of Macedonia conquered Greece. Phillip died making Alexander the Great king at age 20. Alexander was well educated and trained as a military officer. Tutored by Aristotle. Alexander conquered Greece and the Persian Empire (in order: Greece, Anatolia, Egypt, Persia, India). Alexander turned back after reaching India, then shortly died of malaria at age 33. His empire was split up between his generals.
