  • Relationship with family disintegrates. Discovery of new found confidence.

    Pip discovers that he is to become a gentleman which presents him with new found confidence. Pip disregards and "snobbishly" abandons those who loved him, in particularly Biddy, under the assumption that Miss Havisham is in fact his benefator.
  • Introduction to London. Second thoughts?

    Pip arrives in London and with great disgust discovers the extent to which London is disintegrating and destroying the natural surroundings as a result of the industrial boom. With these new thoughts in his mind Pip begins to mingle with Londoners and begins to learn the key aspects of respect, courtesy and etiquette in his new found surroundings. Pip feels out of place but understands he deserves to be in the position he is in. Pip begins to feel remorse towards his actions upon his departure
  • Struggles in London

    As Pip learns to become a gentleman with the aid of his partner, Herbert he begins to understand what life as a gentleman is really like. However, his lack of respect, particularly in terms of his funds, is concerning particularly to Jaggers who expresses deep concerns as to the potential for Pip to become a gentleman.
  • Pip begins to feel strength

    Pip begins to regain his confidence and upon one of his regular visits to Miss Havisham (since he believes she is his benefactor) notices Orlick as her doorman, Pip sees to his dismissal as soon as possible as he sees Orlick as unreputable and unworthy of trust towards the (greatness) of Miss Havisham. This shows Pip as practicing his power towards those (who were at the same level) lesser to him and expressing his dominance towards them.
