Pip arrives at a quarry in the marshes and is immediantly subdued by the bloodthirsty Orlick, who proceeds to express his profound hatred and lust for killing Pip. However, before he can do so, Herbert and other men arrive and free Pip, but Orlick escapes. But, rather than pursue him, Pip proceeds to go help carry out Magwitch's escape.

Following planning the escape for Magwitch, they begin to put that same plan into action. As they try to make their way to the rendezvous point, avoiding both police and Compeyson along the way, but they are forced to delay their actions to the next day due to two unknown observers.

The next day however, with the intervention of Compeyson, Magwitch is captured, but he almost drowns Compeyson in his anger. at this point, Pip is now undeniably loyal to him. Meanwhile, Orlick is captured and sent to prison after attempting to rob Pumblechook.

Herbert resolves to marry Clara, while Wemmick and Miss Skiffins share a comical wedding. Later, Herbert offers Pip a job, an offer of which Pip refuses, for the moment.

Pip begins to visit an ill, but guilty Magwitch, and proceeds to do acts of kindnesss for him.

Pip reveals to Magwitch that he has found his lost daughter and that he loves her. This girl's name is Estella. Magwitch then proceeds to pass away, at peace.

Pip falls into a deep illness, and is arrested regarding large amounts of debt. However, due to his extreme illness, he isn't sent to prison.

During his almost-comatose state, Pip continously recieves hallucinations of the deceased Miss Havisham and the imprisoned Orlick, and consistently sees Joe's face.

Pip finally recovers from his illness to see his old friend Joe, who proceeds to reveal to Pip Orlick's capture, and Biddy's teachings for him regarding writing and reading.

Pip and Joe go on a Sunday outing, nostalgic of what they did when they were younger. Pip tries to tell Joe about the whole Magwitch ordeal, but Joe doesn't want to revisit those memories.

Joe leaves London to return to his hometown after kindly paying off all of Pip's debts, and thus leaving Pip alone.

Pip finally arrives at his homeland, and comes up with a new resolve to marry Biddy. After rudely taking his leave in a confrontation with the condescending Pumblechook, and after seeing the now "currently-auctioned" Satis House finally finds Joe and Biddy, who have made plans for marriage between themselves.

Pip decides to take up his friend Herbert's job offer (One he formorly rejected) and leaves with him to learn the values of hard work.

Estella's husband Drummie dies in midst of their unhappy relationship.

Pip returns to England, and talks of how he has changed into a hard-worker and is content with his modest salaries. He pays Joe and Biddy a visit and mentions that he sees himself as a bachelor. Then, while walking, he encounters Estella and they dicuss their past misdoings, and in the Original Ending, it's revealed Estella has been remarried, with "no shadow of parting in her". But, in the revised ending, Pip suggests they marry and they leave together hand-in-hand.
