  • The University of Georgia Establishment

    As the University of Georgia was being created, many other schools began competing to see which one was created first. New academics were being created, and began spreading education throughout towns. (Online Textbook)

    Baptist and Methodist Churches

    The creation of many churches gave slaves something to look forward to, and increased religion in Georgia. In the late 1830s, Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians all established their own colleges. (Online Textbook)

    Headright System

    Throughout the 1790s, men were given a free 200 acres, and were forced to pay for 50 more per slave. It was the best way to transfer land to the citizens, which led to Georgia gaining land. (Online Textbook)
  • The Creation of the Cotton Gin

    The cotton gin was created by Eli Whitney in 1793, which led to more cotton production and a larger slave population. Because of the cotton gin, the South became the "land of cotton" and increased the sizes of the plantation and slave population. (Online Textbook)

    Yazoo Land Fraud

    Georgia took bribes and illegally sold land, but soon after where forced to give it back in exchange for the native removal. Parts of the West eventually became the territory of the United States, and helped expand Georgia. (Online Textbook)

    Land Lotteries

    Because of the land lotteries, some people would win a piece of worthless land while someone else won a miniature paradise, but neither had a choice. By 1833, they held many more lotteries and finally gave away the last lot of land, which also increased Georgia's amount of land. (Online Textbook)
  • Sequoyah

    Sequoyah wrote a new language that helped the Cherokee fight the removal. He created over 80 symbols that allowed the Cherokee to translate what the English said, which led to the creation of a Cherokee newspaper. (Online Textbook)
  • The Dahlonega Gold Rush

    Gold was found in the Native's land, and everyone pushed the Natives out so they could have it for themselves. Many towns were created in places surrounding the most gold, which heavily increased the population. (Online Textbook)

    Businessmen created the railroads, which led to the huge increase in population in certain areas. The "Western and Atlantic" was a plan to build a railroad to connect the Atlantic to the West, which caused towns to spring up. (Online Textbook)

    The Trail of Tears

    The United States wanted the land that the Cherokee lived on, so they kicked them out and caused many of them to die. After Georgia ratified the constitution, the Creek were forced to give all of their land up, which increased Georgia's land ownership. (Online Textbook)
