    As the Statue of Liberty came into view, all passengers aboard the steamship shouted with triumph and cried with joy. At last, we are free!

    After the steamship had docked, we were all escorted of the ship and into a large building. Neither I nor Feliks knew English, thus everything was overwhelming and confusing.

    In order that we may travel to the great west, my husband and I found jobs, and worked for a year until we had earned enough money.
