Rumours spread in Paris that the royals were hoarding all the grain. Women became angry a hungry mob of burly, knife-wielding fishwives and their husbands marcher on the Palace of Versailles. Many blamed Queen Marie Antoinette for the lack of bread.

Louis XVI was forced to sign most of his power to the National Assembly. Therefore, he decided to escape Paris and gather forces in the northeast of France, to reclaim his royal authority.

Monarchy was finally brought to an end with the execution of the King and the establishment of France as a republic. Marie Antionette was also to be beheaded on the Guillotine during this time period.
