    The Old Regime

    In the 1770's and 1780's the French government sank into harsh debt. The queen and king was mostly the problem.
  • Dawn of the Revolution

    Dawn of the Revolution
    In 1789 the estates voted to dominate the Estates-General. Each estate had one vote but two of the lucky estates could outvote the other. They were eager to change the ways of the government.
  • National Assembly

    National Assembly
    On June 5th, 1789, the third estates created the National Assembly, which was just the name they called themselves. The National Assembly is passed laws and reforms.
  • Tennis court oath

    Tennis court oath
    On June 20th of the same year the National Assembly found out that they had been locked out of their meeting. They busted down the doors and said they wouldn't leave until they had figured out a new constitution.
  • Storming the Bastille

    Storming the Bastille
    On July 14th 1789 a mob stormed a prison, which was called Bastille. The mob was looking for gunpowder but while storming through the prison, they took over of the prison. The day is known as Bastille Day.

    The day of August 4th was a day where noblemen were trying to join the National Assembly. The noblemen were trying to join because they feared it so much. They made speeches and told the Assembly how they loved the equality and freedom they had.
  • Limited Monarchy

    in 1791 the National Assembly finally finished what their goal was, to finish the new constitution. The Assembly got the constitution approved. The new constitution made a new legislative body too (Legistlative Assembly).
  • Maximilien Robespierre gains power

    Maximilien Robespierre gains power
    In January of 1793 Maximilien Robespierre was getting power. He tried to wipe out Frances past, he closed all the churches in Paris and some people think he changed the calendar.
  • Reign of Terror

    Later in 1793 Robespierre had begun to lead the Committee of Public Safety(to protect the Revolution from enemies". Maximilen was a dictator of France for the next year, people referred to his time ruling as the "reign of terror".
  • Napolean takes over

    Napolean takes over
    Napoleon had taken control of France after the Directory had lost the control of the people and the trust they had for it. Also after Napolean took over and started to control France, he ruled as a dictator.
