    The Third Estate wanted to make changes to the government. They wanted the three estates to meet together and have each delegate vote.     Storming the Bastille
    Some people thought Louis wanted to use military to dismiss the National Assembly. People gathered weapons to defend the city. The attackers broke into the prison and killed many guards.     The Great Fear
    Rumors went around that nobles hired outlaws to terrorize peasants. There was panic going around called the Great Fear. Peasants began attacking and destroying nobles' houses in fear.     The Legislative Assembly
    The National Assembly completed the new constitution, which Louis approved. This constitution created a limited constitutional monarchy, which stripped Louis of some of his authority. The new legislative body was called the Legislative Assembly, which had the power to create laws and approve or reject declarations of war.     The Jacobin Club was a radical political organization. The most prominent club member was named Jean-Paul Marat, who edited a newspaper called L'Ami du Peuple.     Louis is Executed by the Guillotine
    Dr. Joseph Ignace Guillotine was a member of the National Assembly and a physician. He proposed a machine that was efficient and humane to execute people. The National Convention found Louis XIV guilty and executed him with the guillotine on January 21, 1793. This was important because it was the end Louis's reign as king. Source: World History Ebook

    Maximillian Robespierre Gains Control
    Maximillian Robespierre, a Jacobin leader started to gain power. He started wiping out France's past by changing the calendar and closing many churches.     Reign of Terror
    The period of Maximillian Robespierre was called the Reign of Terror. The Committee of Public Safety was supposed to protecy the Revolution from its enemies. Between 1793 and 1794 many people who led the Revolution recieved death sentences. As many as 40,000 people were executed, many were peasants or poor.   • End of the Terror

    End of the Terror
    In July, members of the National Convention turned on Maximilien Robespierre and demanded his arrest and execution. Many people were tired of the high prices of basic necessities and had grown tired of the Terror. The National Convention drafted a new plan of government, which called for a two house legislature and an executive body of five men, called the Directory.
