The Financial and political states of France had turned terribly bad, forcing King Louis 16th to summon the estates general meeting. The three estates were called to the estates general meeting, there were the 1st estates, 2nd estates, and the 3rd estates. 1st and 2nd estates are filled with people from the church and nobility, the third estate is made up of the other 95% of people in the nation. The 3rd estate does not get there way when all the estates vote. -
The national Assembly was formed because people wanted to change the way of the government. This group was mostly filled with members from the third estate and very few members of the second estate. In this group they would find ways to try and overthrow the government, the king eventually caught on and locked them out of the building that they were using. The members then found an indoor tennis court and all the members swore an oath called the tennis court oath. -
The tennis court oath happened at the beginning of the french revolution. This event was a pledge that was taken by members of the national assembly and happened in the early revolution. They made an oath that they would not stop having meetings until france had a good government. This event showed the people that power comes from the nation not from the monarchy. -
The people stormed the prison and demanded guns and ammunition. When the prison guards did not obey the orders the people rushed the prison and released all of the prisoners currently being held there. This event is important because it was the whole reason the french revolution started. The monarchy was taken down and had lost all power. This event demonstrated that with enough people anything can be overthrown. -
The constitution was created by the National Assembly, who were also the group that made the tennis court oath. The constitution gained power from an indirect voting system. This event is important because it established that the French were a kingdom. It also made a law which made all men of law equal. All nobility power of france had been taken away. -
In this event a mob of people, mainly the third estate people were a part of this and very few second estate. The two estates forced the monarchs to go to paris and stay there. The main reason this event happened was because the monarchy was being unfair to the poor and taxing them more than ever. The monarchy was spending its money on parties and pretty dresses whilst their country is falling apart. This event is important because The poor people who forced them out lived better lives. -
The king and queen were arrested for being found guilty of high treason. The king was then executed on January 21, 1793 by guillotine and was the first victim of the reign of terror. His head was held on a wooden stake in the revolutionary crowd. The Queen was beheaded by guillotine on October 16 1793. -
Maximilien Robespierre fell out of power at the start of the reign of terror. Citizens of france felt a sense of emergency and fear of what was going to happen to their country. The reign of terror started the ideas of beheadings. 40,000 people were killed by the revolutionaries, all which were killed by the guillotine. -
In July 1794 Robespierre had been arrested and executed for his actions. His fellow Jacobins had been executed with him for treason. This event ended the reign of terror which caused an upright to society and an upright to france.
