    King Louis the XVl made a call out to the three Estates Generals for the first time in a long time. The first Estate was made up of the clergy and mostly the rich. The second Estate was made up of the nobility and the wealthy. The third estate was made up of the common people, it was the largest group.

    The Signing of the Tennis Court Oath
    The Estates General met separate at the kings insistence. The third estate established the National Assembly, but they were later locked out of their traditional meeting spot at Versailles. They transitioned to the indoor tennis court. The third Estate pledged not to leave until France had a new constitution, and the king gave in and told the first and second Estates to join them.

    The angry Revolutionaries storm the Bastille. By doing this, not only does it make a statement against their monarchy. Although, the crowd also obtain weapons and gun powder that was kept in the prison jail house.

    The Declaration of the Rights of Man was written on August 26, 1789. The declaration states that all men are equal under the law. This document did not create an effect on women or children.

    On this day women, women armed with pitchforks, knives, etc., from the Persian Market lead a March on Versailles. They were protesting about how little bread is left in the community, and also about how high the prices for bread were. The women moved forward to attack Marie Antoinette. Her body guards got their heads stabbed, remarkably the queen herself did not get injured. Instead the king and queen decided to hand bread out to everyone.

    The Civil Constitution of the Clergy was a law passed to allow the French government to be in control of the church. Due to desperately needed money, the government starts to sell the church's land. The Civil Constitution reduced the number of bishops and made all of the members of the clergy swear to an oath of loyalty to the nation.

    King Louis XVl and his family make an effort to flee from France. Although, they get caught at Varennes. They are sent back to Paris where the King is forced to go on trial. They were trying to initiate a counter-revolution at the head of loyal troops under royalist officers near the frontier.

    After being put on trial for attempting to flee from France, the king is sentenced to death. He was sentenced to death, because he was accused of treason for betraying the French He was executed by the guillotine in January.

    There were thousands of people that had a sentence to death by execution. It is caused by conflict between two political parties the Jacobins and the Girondins. The leader of the Jacobins, Maximilian Robespierre arises as a new leader of the revolution.

    After a year of harsh rulings by Maximilian Robespierre, leader of the Jacobins, is executed because many of the revolutionary leaders had suffered enough terror. The power of the Jacobins fall with him and the Girondins gain more power in return.
