  • Call of the Estates Generals

    Call of the Estates Generals
    On May 5th, 1789, Louis XVI summoned the Estates- General for they're first meeting since 1614. The Estates- General consists of three estates. The First Estate was the clergy, the Second Estate was the nobility, and the Third was the common, or the rest of the population.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    In Versailles, France, the senior figures of the Third estate swore to meet at the Tennis court to adopt a new constitution against King Louis XVI to fix the severe financial problems that were occurring at the time in France. This oath was known as The Tennis Court Oath. However the King didn't like the activities of the Third estate and refused to recognize it as a National Assembly. But he didn't make them stop, eventually he had the second and first estate to join the new National assembly.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    In July of 1789, The Bastille was broken into by Parisian revolutionaries and mutinous troops. The Bastille was a royal fortress that was symbolized as the tyranny of the Bourbon monarchs. King Louis XVI and his wife Mary Antoinette were imprisoned along with tens of thousands of executions. These actions is what is said to be the beginning of The French Revolution.

    The declaration of the rights of Man as written by General Lafayette, he and the Naional assembly were influenced to write this by the Declaration of Independence.
  • March on Versailles

    March on Versailles
    In October of 1789, a group of women marched from Paris to Versailles in demand that the royal family would lower the prices of bread. The rage of the crowd was almost solely on Marie Antoinette, who put the country of France in debt, the other reason was because King Louis XVI allowed his wife to let this happen. When the crowd found Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI they did not kill them, instead they kept them as prisoners until their execution in 1791.

    King Louis XVI and his lamily attempt to flee out of the country. But they are later found at Verannes and were sent back to Paris. King is sent to trial.

    Civil Constitution of the Clergy
    Civil Constitution of the Clergy was written in an attempt to reorganize the Roman Catholic Church in France. The church needed new financial framework to be built on but King Louis XVI denied the constitution. This caused the chuch in France to split into nonjurors and jurors.

    After being put on trail, King Louis XVI was sentence to execution. King Louis XVI is executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris along with his wife.
  • The Regin of Terror

    The Regin of Terror
    During the Reign of Terror, 300,000 suspects were arrested, 17,000 were executed, and about 10,000 people died in prison or without trial. This is caused a conflict between two political parties called the Jacobins, and the Girondins. The leader of the Jacobins, Maximilien became the new leader of the Revolution.

    Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader. He conquered most of Europe in the early 19th century. He crowned himself emperor in 1804.
