  • Estates General Called

    This meeting was called into existence when Frances financial status was not looking good. Even though the third estate was immensely larger than the other two estates. King Louis called on an old rule called the Parlement of Paris which only gave each estate one total vote no matter the size of the estate. This gave the Nobility and clergy an unfair advantage over the commoners. This made the commoners mad since they were being taxed to help support the meaningless wars France was in.
  • National Assembly Formed

    This was created by the 3rd estate. It was created out of the anger that the 3rd estate counted for 98% of the population but could be outvoted 2:1. Due to this they went and formed their own political group called the National Assembly. They operated without the approval of the king. they basically ran the country.
  • Tennis court oath

    The national assembly met in an indoor tennis court against the orders of the king. They swore an oath to not disband until there was a new French constitution. this meeting took place in the Jeu De Paume.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    A fortress that had been converted to a prison for the influx of prisoners. The third estate raided the partially to release prisoners but mainly to obtain weapons that could be used to fight the other states.
  • Constitutional Monarchy

    A constitutional monarchy is a form of monarchy in which the sovereign exercises authority in accordance with a written or unwritten constitution.

    Monarchy abolished in France. In Revolutionary France, the Legislative Assembly votes to abolish the monarchy and establish the First Republic. The measure came one year after King Louis XVI reluctantly approved a new constitution that stripped him of much of his power.
  • Reign of terror begins

    The Reign of Terror begins when Robespierre declares Terror "the order of the day." This marks the beginning of almost two years of repressing perceived enemies of the Revolution. It will claim an estimated 18,500-40,000 lives before it ended
  • King Louis and Marry Antoinette beheaded

    Both Mary Antoinet and King Louis where convicted of high treason against France and her people and where sentenced to beheading
  • Reign of terror ends

    it came to an end when the leader of the movement, Maximilian Robespierre was executed.
