French Revolution Timeline

  • Call of the Estate General

    The French Revolution started because King Louis XVI. King Louis was spending a ton of money and France was on the edge of bankruptcy. So they called this meeting because of the governments financial problems.
  • Tennis court Oath

    The third Estate began to call themselves the National Assembly. They were shocked when they saw that the chamber doors were locked and guarded by solders on the morning of June 20th. they then began to fear that King Louis XVI was soon going to attack.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Bastille is a French prison. On the morning of July 14th a angry mob stormed in. During the French Revolution Bastille was a symbol of power. when the Government got involved to try and stop it they killed the governor and put his head on a spike for everyone to see.
  • March on Versailles

    A women went on a march from Paris to Versailles. The march took two days, she was only hoping to get bread because she couldn't afford it. while the king and other Royal Family's had feast every night many other family's were starving.
  • Champ de Mars Massacre

    The citizens came together to fight against the decision of the National Constituent Assembly that King Louis XVI would still be king. King Louis XVI would still be king. He just wouldn't have as much power, he would have to share power with a constitution.
  • The first invasion of the Tuileries

    the Tuleries was the home of King Louis XVI. A little over three years after the attack on Bastille, all of the people of Paris surrounded the town. This cut off all supplies coming in and didn't allow people to come in or out.
  • Overthrow of the monarchy

    On the morning of August 10, 1792, the National Guard and a mob of Parisians invaded the royal family Tuileries. They stormed in and destroyed the place. Although the royal family had already left for safety, there was a open fire in the crowd. They were quickly overpowered, and most of the Swiss soldiers were hacked to death, it was the bloodiest day of the Revolution so far.
  • Execution of the King

    on the morning of January 23, 1793 King Louis XVI was executed by a guillotine. It was a cold and foggy winter morning and thousands of people gathered around to watch King Louis XVI get executed. They had forced Marie Antoinette watch as the King lost his head.
  • Region of Terror

    The Region of Terror lasted about 6 months. This was a period of violence that occurred after the onset of the French Revolution.
  • Execution of Robespierre

    This was towards the end of the French Revolution. Robespierre was a lawyer, politician and one of the most influential people in the French Revolution. The French people didn’t like him so the ordered his arrest.They were trialed and sent to the guillotine the next day.
