Execution of King Louis XVI
King Louis was killed after getting put on trial for being a traitor (tried to leave the country) and his punishment was decapitation. -
Committee of Public Safety governs France
The C. of P.S. was a group of 12 dictators that took power to rule France once King Louis XVI was killed. Robespierre was the leader amongst them, and they believed everything they did was for public safety. -
The Reign of Terror
A period of time where anyone who was suspicious of not believing in the Revolution was killed. Its goal was to convince everyone that they would go along with it, and to scare the enemies. People would turn others in for ridiculous things, such as complaining about bread prices or not being enthusiastic enough. -
Dechristianization
People needed to take away power of the church, so they attempted to de-Christianize the people of France. In attempt to weaken the Church, a new calendar was put in place, Churches were raided, and street names were changes. -
Execution of Maximilien Robespierre
After walking in to a meeting claiming he had a list of triators, he was caught and did not give the "list." His piers suddenly turned on him and he was killed. -
The Directory controls France
Temporary government after Robespierre is killed. The Directory just held France together and prevented violence. They were active for 4 years. -
Napoleon takes over in a coup d' etat
Napoleon takes over France--> one man, complete power, however he took ideas from the revolution.
