The Enlightenment was a movement that brought about changes in the ideas of philosophy and intellect to Europeans. This time increased people's knowledge and skills. It also expanded information, and brought about new discoveries. The Enlightenment was significant to the Revolution because it showed people that they do not need kings or priests to tell them what to do, spurring up disagreement within France.
  • France in Debt

    France in Debt
France was in debt because of the participation in the American Revolution. Being in wars results in using a significant amount of money, leading France into debt. France joined in on the Revolution in order to show their enemy, Britain, that France is a strong and stable country. It was intended to intimidate Britain. I believe this is one of the most important events of the Revolution because it shows the ultimate cause of the Revolution. The poor were upset, and wanted change.

After Louis XVI locked the National Assembly outside the meeting room, they decided to go to a tennis court and create an oath. There, they pledged to not stop until they write a constitution for France. The National Assembly would not dissemble until they saw changes within the French government. This event is significant because it shows a time where people refused to back down to Louis. It also shows that people came together as a whole, in order to make a change within France.

  • National Assembly of France Forms

    National Assembly of France Forms
The National Assembly of France during the Revolution was a group of representatives from the Third Estate of the Estates-General. This was made up of commoners, and responsible to pay taxes, even thought they had no money. This group of people were not happy with the way France was being run, and were not afraid to stand up for what they believed in, so they created an assembly. This event is important during the Revolution because it shows how people came together for a common goal.
  • The National Assembly Drafts a Constitution

The National Assembly Drafts a Constitution
The National Assembly thought drafting a Constitution for France was necessary. It had kept the monarchy, however supreme power ultimately was kept within the Legislative Assembly. This affected voting, and was restricted to people who paid taxes and who were "active citizens" I believe this is an important event during the French Revolution because it shows how common people came together to get something accomplished, since the king, was incapable of doing so, or pleasing his suffering people.

After being suspected of conspiracy with foreign powers, Louis XVI was sentenced to death.
