  • The Assembly of Notables

    The Assembly of Notables, organized by Calonne to decleare to the public his proposals, is convoked.
  • Estates-General meets

    The Estates-General meets for the first time since 1614.
  • Disagreement over voting methods

    There was disagreement within the three estates over voting methods in the Estates General. The third estate wanted to have a "vote by head" method, but the First Estate and Second Estate wanted "vote by bloc" (that meant only 1 vote per estate).

    Woman marched to Versailles demanding to see the king, queen, and their son because of their starvation, and their need of bread, which was a typical daily diet of the french.
  • Clergy under government control

    The nationalization of Church lands was the first step in state control of the Church. On July 12, 1790 the National Assembly passed the Civil Constitution of the Clergy to bring the clergy under government control. Clergy would now be elected by all citizens and their salaries would be paid by the state. They were required to swear an oath of allegiance to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, it required the them to acknowledge the superiority of the French

    the nrest in Paris in the spring of 1791 convinced Marie Antoinette, that the family must escape their loyal friend Count Axel von Fersen, helped and an escape was organized. they went to Varennes, but were recognized and National Guardsmen took them back to Paris.

    In the fall of 1792, Rumors said that the 3000 prisoners held in in in september 1792, Paris prisons were planning to rebel. there were News that Verdun was threatened by the Prussian army and that was what began what is called the "September Massacres". An angry mob led by Jean Paul Marat invaded the prisons and killed about 1600 prisoners

    social and cultural changes were made by the Jacobins during the time they were in control they tried to erase all traces of the Old Regime. They called their new society, based on reason, the Republic of Virtue.

    Robespierre was arrested on July 27 and executed the next day. Robespierre was abandoned by his supporters and accused of being an evil ruler. Robespierre wanted to extend emergency powers, but others felt that the emergencies were over and wanted to return to normal administration.
