  • THE MEETING OF THE ESTATE GENERALS

    King Louis XVI created the Nation assembly to counteract the verge of bankruptcy France has been sitting on.
  • STORMING BASTILLE

    Roughly 800 Parisians stormed Bastille after the commander denied entry and fired upon the mob.The mob found prisoners but did not find any weapons. This became a symbol of the French Revolution.
  • RIGHTS OF MAN DECLARATION

    Issued by the National Assembly on August 20, 1789, the Rights of Man declared the political and social equality of all men, the sovereignty of the people, and the natural right to liberty, property, security, and resistance to opposition. It was a first step towards writing a plausible, yet theoretical constitution.
  • MARCH ON VERSAILLES

    The people took to the streets of Versailles demanding bread. The mob forced the royal family to return to Paris and forced Louis XVI to signs the Declaration of the Rights of Man. Louis XIV now was a prisoner to the people. This made his power almost non existent.
  • THE ATTEMPT OF TREASON

    The queen of France, Marie Antoinette, convinced that the family must escape. The royal family went from Paris to the border. However, when they reached Varennes, they were recognized and sent back to Paris. The people saw this as treason and executed Louis XIV and his family.

    French Government declared war on Austria. However Prussia was allied with Austria so France was fighting 2 countries now.
  • Executing of Louis XVI

    On January 21, 1793, the French people sent their former king to the guillotine. Girondins tried to help him, however the Jacobins will to execute him in the end triumphed.
  • Levee en Masse

    Committee of Public Safety mobilized the entire country for war. All unmarried men between the ages of 18 and 25 were enlisted.
  • REIGN OF TERROR

    Mass executions took place between the Girondins and the Jacobins.
    Roughly 40,000 lives were executed
  • ROBESPIERRE EXECUTION

    Robespierre was executed to end the Reign of Terror after members of the Convention turned on the Committee of Public Safety.
