  • May 5, 1789 Meeting with Estates General

    The heads of each estate of France met to discuss issues in their lives. Because nothing was accomplished, the 3rd Estate left the government to make their own government
  • Tennis Court Oath

    They took an oath to not leave the tennis court which was were they were meeting until they had written a constitution, they called themselves the National Assembly. The king of France legalized the National Assembly, but then surrounded Versailles with troops which caused further turmoil.
  • Storming of Bastille

    The French revolutionaries stormed and captured the prison of Bastille. This kick started the revolution and led to more and more attacks.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    It was a declaration that the National Assembly made due to the civil injustice and corruption in the French monarchy. The declaration said that all men are equal before the law, all people will be taxed, and political positions will be voted on based on skill.
  • Women's March on Versailles

    Women stormed Versailles because they were concerned over the high prices of bread. This caused the French royals to have to flee to Paris.
  • Execution of King Louis XVI

    French Revolutionaries executed King Louis XVI by using the Guillotine. This got rid of their main target and caused them to move on to executing other members of the second and first estate.

    Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was a period where many first, second, and third estate members were targeted and executed. As a result, paranoia and mistrust spread across the people of France
  • Maximilien Robespierre's execution

    He was arrested by the National Convention and was executed. The execution of him and of many of his followers led to the end of the reign of terror.
  • Napoleonic Code

    The Napoleonic Code gave France laws concerning property, colonial affairs, the family, and individual rights. The code gave men more power than women and restarted slavery.
  • Crowning of Napoleon

    Napoleon became a dictator and crowned himself emperor of France. France ended up turning into a dictatorship with an emperor and nobility which was similar to what the revolution tried to get rid of.

    Peninsular War

    France fought against other European powers to gain control over the Iberian Peninsula. The French ended up losing the war which led to Napoleon being taken out of power.
  • Napoleon's March on Russia

    Napoleons men marched to Moscow only to find it deserted and for their to be no food. This left the men with no means to survive the Russian winter.
  • Napoleon gets Exiled to Elba

    When Napoleons forces were broken up he offered to step down in favor of his son, but that was rejected and he was sent to Elba.
  • Death of Napoleon

    Napoleon died while on the Island of Saint Helena. He most likely died to stomach cancer.
