  • citizens storm and capture the Bastille

    citizens take pikes and pitchforks and storm the fort

    Austria is at war because of the Royal family is hostage but there army is to great for the French.

  • Trial for Louis begins

    The trial for King Louis XVI begins. For trying to leave the country he is put on trial.

    Louis XVI is executed. For crimes of treason he is executed

  • Marat put on trial for complicity in September massacre but is acquitted.

    He was accused of causing the masscacre but is found innocent.

  • Marat, “the people’s friend,” murdered by Charlotte Corday.

    She kills him for having so many people executed.

  • Corday executed amid popular outrage.

    She is executed but calm for killing Marat

    She is accused of aiding the enemy and is tried and executed.

  • Robespierre becomes a dictator

    he basically becomes a dictator and rules over France.

  • Robespierre decreed the new religion of the Supreme Being.

  • Start of mass trial and execution

  • Convention calls for arrest of Robespierre. Robespierre attempts insurrection which flops, is arrested and executed. After about 150 of his supporters are done away with, the Terror is over.

    The convention is afraid they are on the list so tehy have him executed.

  • The Churches re-open for Christian worship.

    The Supreme Being is no more and Christianity is again the religion.

  • Napoleon assumes command of French army in Italy.

    He becomes the commander of Italy.

  • 100s of supporters of Babeuf attack palace of the Directorate but are routed.

    They attack the palace but are unsuccessful.

  • Babeuf and his supporters are convicted but take their own lives.

    They are convicted for attacking the palcae but kill themselves instead of being executed.

  • Directorate resigns.

    He resigns his title.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte named “First Consul,” now the effective dictator.

    He declares himself the dictator of France.

  • Napoleon becomes emperor

    He declares himself emperor.
