King Louis XVI
Last king of France, but paid no attention to the government advisors. The Queen, his wife; Marie Antionette only had added to his problems, she gave poor advise and was part of Frances enemy she was unpopular. She had spent so much money on jewels and gowns she bacame "Madame Deficit" King louis didn't cut her expenses, he wa broke so his solution was to make taxes on the nobiitly. -
American Revolution
The American Revolution had begun because there was tention builing up with the cononists and British, which had led to the Stamp act and the Boston Tea Party. The Revolution had given France ideas to win becasue the Americans did. On June 17 the Revolution had its first major battle, the colonists had caused some damage to the British. -
Debt
In the years of 1787 to 1788 a financial crisis had come. The American Revolution had been the prime reason why there was debt, the other reson was becuse bad harvests and a very slowdown in manufacturing had led to food shortages, unemployment, and rising the prices for food. King Louis XVI was forced to call a meeting of the Estates-General to raise the new taxes. -
The Three Estates
The Three Estates were three groups, the First Estate consisted of clergy, they owned about 10 percent of land, they didnt have to pay French taxes. The Second Estate, or the nobility. They owned 20-30 percent of the land, they were important because they held leading positions in military, gov., church and law courts.The Third Estate, communers of socity made up majority of the French population. -
New Constitution
Set up a limited army monarchy that there would still be a king but the Legislative Assembley would make the laws. the Assembley would hve 745 people in it, they made sure that all male people over 25 could vote, Later on that law was destroyed. Louis XVI made it very hard due to his wifes frequent spending, but soon it would lay to rest.
