    The Opening of the Estate convenes when necessary action needs to be taken. The three estates convene consisting of the clergy, nobility, and the commoners. After the Estates General people decided to break away. Forming the National Assembly. All three estates decided to join, showing the separation of the people from the king. This is considered the beginning of the French Revolution.

    Storming of the Bastille

    Bastille was a armory, fortress, and prison that represented the tyranny of King Louis XVI. Parisian gathered around the building with muskets, swords, and other weaponry. More and more people came to fight, until eventually Bernard-René Jordan de Launay (the governor of Bastille) surrendered.     In an attempt to save themselves and possibly create a counter revolt, the king and queen attempted to flee the country. As they came close Verennes, which is near Belgium, they where recognized and soon after detained. Or they disagreed with the decision to get rid of the king and queen, such as Prussia and Austria. The newly forming National Assembly also began to have misunderstandings with many countries, beginning a number of conflicts.     Headed by Maximillian de Robespeirre, it was an attempt to limit people trying to seize France. As a result 27,000 people died from execution or imprisonment, and over 500,000 where arrested. Often times they where innocent. Similarly to witch hunts during the reformation, it was a very scary time for regular citizens, and lasted about a year (March 1793-July 1794).

    As tensions rose France declared war on Britain and the Netherlands. They wanted to keep the Bourbon Monarchy and bring back King Louis XIV but they where unsuccessful.     As a military leader Napoleon defeated the Austrians gaining him many awards. The he took down Naples, Rome, and Switzerland in 1798. Many people awed at his achievements, gaining the support of many people in France. This time was important because it showed that he could fight for the French people. (1795-1799).

    The Reign of Terror called for a change in the Constitution. on August 22nd they placed the power into the hands of 5 wealthy directory members. Which was not ideal for many commoners. This system lasted four years before Nepolean came into power.

    As expected the directory did not go well with the people. They where not doing their duties. Royalists came together in an attempt to bring down the Directory. To prove his loyalty Napoleon defended the Directory and won. This marked the beginning of his rise to power.

    When it became fit and Napoleon gained enough support he overthrew the Directory. Establishing a three-consult central government. Napoleon being the first consult had the most power.
