    Estates General was called
    Louis XVI called the estates general for the first time in over 150 years to solve economic problems regarding France. The representative assembly consisted of three estates.
  • National Assembly formed

    National Assembly formed
    It was a revolutionary assembly formed by the representatives of the Third Estate of the Estates-General. It was important because it ended feudalism and began a representative government.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    Members of the third estate or national assembly, vowed not to seperate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require until the constitution was established.
  • The Storming of the Bastille

    The Storming of the Bastille
    A prison on the east side of Paris known as Bastille got attacked by an aggressive mob. The monarchy had kept all of its political prisoners within. The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy and the event became one of the defining moments during the revolution. The Bastille had been built within the 1300s to protest the people of Paris during the 100 years war.
  • Constitutional Monarchy formed

    Constitutional Monarchy formed
    The National Assembly released its much-anticipated Constitution of 1791, which created a constitutional monarchy for France. It had the objective to reduce the power of the monarch and be assigned to different institutions.

    France a Republic
    A mob overthrew the Constitutional Monarchy which made the first republic. The French First Republic was founded in September of 1792 during the French Revolution. The First Republic lasted until 1804 when the government changed many times.

    Reign of Terror

    It began with the Girondins being overthrown and the ascendancy of the Jacobins under Robespierre. Robespierre made a declaration that terror would be the order of the day. Between this time there was 16 594 deaths and just under 2 700 which were in Paris. During this time France was ruled by a group called the Committee of Public Safety.

    Beheading
    King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were beheaded. Marie was killed because of three main charges. She was also the last queen before the French Revolution. King Louis XVI was charged with conspiracy with foreign powers and then sentenced to death.

    Napoleon Bonaparte and French Nationalism

    Napoléon Bonaparte was a French military leader who rose to the top during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during many wars. He promoted nationalism based upon the idea of liberty, equality, and fraternity. French expansionism and French military campaigns had the right to spread enlightened ideals of the French Revolution.
