  • Estates General Called

    Due to the inability to solve the ever increasing financial crisis and the increase of civil unrest, King Louis XVI called the estates general(which hasn't been called in over 175 years). The estates general was the closest thing they had to a parliament, where each estate has 1 vote.Generally, because each estate has one vote, (even though the 3rd estate is 98% of france's population) the 3rd estate was always outvoted by the 2nd and first estate, which are the nobility and clergy respectively.

  • National Assembly Formed

    Due to the third estate being outvoted every time in the estates general meeting, they decided to go and create their own government and laws. with this, they planned to take over the running of the country. Therefore, the National Assembly was formed and now in control. King Louis XVI tried to lock them out of the building they were meeting at in an attempt to stop them, but they found another building. This National Assembly was made up of the most educated people of the 3rd estate.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Because king Louis XVI kicked the national assembly out of the building they were meeting in, the assembly went to a tennis court to continue their meeting. The Tennis Court Oath, was an oath to not stop meeting until the king made it so there was more equality for the peoples of France and economic reform.
  • The Storming of the Bastille

    A large crowd had raided a military hospital where they were able to get a large amount of guns. But weren't able to find any gunpowder, so a year later, mid morning, a crowd had gathered around the bastille, a large prison. The crowd had demanded that Governor de launay surrender the prison and give the gunpowder store within the prison to the crowd/revolutionists. The governor attempted to stall for time, but the crowd became inpatient and stormed the bastille, in which they were successful.

    after the women's march, which forced king louis XVI to Paris, the 3rd estate kept making demands of him. And to stay on the revolutionaries' good side, he did whatever they had said. Everything began to turn against him, so he had a plan to leave france to austria, where he would try and rein back in control of france from a separate country. But he was caught trying to leave france, there for he was seen as a traitor. He was then striped of all power, and remained as a figure head.
  • France becomes a Republic

    On the tenth of august, tension in the city reached its breaking point. A mob had ended up storming the king's palace, forcing king louis XVI to flee to the chamber of the legislative Assembly. With everything that was going on, the chamber decided to hold a vote, and together they had disbanded the entirety of the monarchy. A month later, the newly created national convention had stated officially a republic. with the creation of the republic, ideas of democracy and equality where implemented.

    Austria and Prussia pledged to reinstate the king, king louis XVI to his throne. But Robespierre had the brilliant idea of making sure the king was dead, so there wasn't a king that Austria and prussia could reinstate. But there were two sides on what to do about the king, many wanted to do what Robespierre had proposed, but others simply wanted to exile him from the country. so a vote was held, and by the sway of just one vote, king louis XVI was sentenced to the guillotine.
  • Reign of Terror Begins Part 1

    With the murder of Jean Paul Marat, he was seen as a martyr, the new spark that ignited the violence that was going to envelop the newly created republics of france. And so, the reign of terror begins. In light of possible loss of their newly founded republic, a committee of public safety was established, of which was a 12 man dictatorship with Robespierre as their leader.

    all throughout france there were spies and undercover police, monitoring the citizens. if the citizens spoke out, even unintentionally against the republic, hey would be tried and likely be found guilty and sentenced to the guillotine.
  • Marie Antoinette Beheaded

    Marie Antoinette was finally tried and found guilty of treason. And to her dismay, she was not brought to her exaction in a royal carriage meant for a queen, but instead a wooden horse drawn wagon. The most hated women in france, marie antoinette had finally met her end on october sixteenth, seventeen-ninety-three.
  • Reign of Terror Ends Part 1

    due to Robespierre executing any of those who opposed him and the fact that he was pretty much declaring himself a god, the people of france got fed up. But there final straw was on july 25th. when when Robespierre had declared to the national convention that had a list of new people that were to be executed, and had told that many of those in the convention where on the list.
  • end of the reign of terror part 2

    This statement immediately backfired when they decided to send Robespierre to the guillotine, being the last victim of the reign of terror, that he himself had created. With his death, the reign of terror was over, though the revolution carried on until 1799.
