    The Tennis Court Oath was an oath created by the members of the National assembly during the French Revolution. The members of the National assembly swore to stay together until they wrote a new constitution for France. It is called The Tennis Court Oath because it was actually made on an indoor tennis court!

    Storming of the Bastille
    The Storming of the Bastille started the French Revolution in 1789 in Paris, France. This is when a large group of French people rebelled against their King and Queen by storming a prison called the Bastille. This prison was where the King and Queen locked up people who didn't agree with them. It was a powerful symbol of the monarchy. The French rebelled because the unfair King and Queen were causing the poor to go hungry, and they weren't listening to the people's concerns.

    The Flight of Varennes is when King Louis XVI and his family tried to flee from Paris, France. They were trying to go to Austria but ended up getting caught in a small town called Varennes. They were brought back to Paris on June 22. When they returned they were surronded by the National Guard and all the people wathced the royal family with silence and hatred. This was important becuase it proved that King Louis could not be trusted.

    The Reign of Terror was a violent 10 month period during the French Revolution. Enemies of the Revolution were guillotined by thousands because they wanted to protect the country from foreign invaders. The guillotine is a device that beheads a person by dropping a heavy blade. Tens of thousands of people were killed this way. It became the symbol of the revolutionary cause.

    Napolean Bonaparte Becomes Emperor of France
    Napolean Bonaparte was a political and military leader who conquered lots of Europe in the early 19th century. He crowned himslef the first Emperor of France in 1804. Almost everyone in Europe did not like Napolean, and many wars were fought against him. He rose to power and brought the revolution to an end. He was finally defeated in 1815.
