    Parisians stormed the Bastille to get weapons and a fight broke out. The spirit of popular sovereignty spread throughout France, and many commoners began to form militias and arm themselves.

    Stated that all MEN are created equally. It also gave the right to freedom of speech, press, and religion.

    7,000 women march to the palace of Versailles demanding bread for their families. Marie Antoinette said the famous quote, 'Let them eat cake.'

    Legislative Assembly was created, in which any men 25 or older, or any taxpayer could vote. New constitution written making France a constitutional monarchy.
  • King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette try to flee France

    King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette attempt to flee from France to Austria by dressing up like a commonsperson. This eventually fails to work and they are both arrested and taken back to Paris.

    Austria and Prussia issued declaration of warning to France. Austria sent 5,000 troops to the border of France

    King Louis XVI was tried for treason and was found guilty. On January 21, he was publicly executed by the guillotine
  • Napoleon Bonaparte becomes leader of France

    Napoleon formed key political alliances and seized control of the French government on in a bold move known as the Coup d'Etat of Eighteenth Brumaire. Napoleon could now rule France as a dictator.
