In last August, as a first step toward writing a constitution, the assembly issued the the declaration of the rights of man and the rights of man and the citizen. the declaration further proclaimed that all male citizen's were equal before the law. Many woman were disappointed that the declaration of the rights of man did not grant equal citizenship to them.

    As the revolution continued, dismal news about the war abroad heightened tensions. Prussian force were cutting down raw french recruits. Roualist officers were deserting the french army. A month later, citizens attacked prisoners that nobleesand jriests accused of political offencese. About 1,200 prisoners were killed. The convention also put louis XVI on trail as a traiter french. King was convicted by a single vote and sentenced to death.
