French and Haitian Revolutions Timeline

  • Gens De Colour demand equal rights from France

    The people of color in 1789, and many years before then, wanted equal rights such as the whites had. They wanted their total freedom, and to be free from slavery. The colored wanted to win their political battle to show their case, ad why they were as equal as the whites were. The colored started to revolt, which later lead to them winning their political battle.
  • Meeting of the Estates General

    The estates consisted of the Third estate, which made up a majority of the population. The second and first estates consisted of the more noble and higher people. The estates general was the third estate, which was fighting for their equal rights against the upper classes. After the meeting, all of the estates came together and lead to the formation of the National Assembly.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    The people of France were close to severe food shortages, and Bastille had many of the resources that France needed. France went and stormed Bastille, leading to the capture of Bastille and the start of a rebellion between France and the people of Bastille.
  • Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen

    The Declaration of Rights of Men and Citizen states how all men are equal. The rights of man should be given to ALL men, colored and all. This also lead to the help of abolishing slavery and differences in colored people from the whites.
  • French National Assembly granted free Blacks full French rights in Saint Domingue

    In October of 1789, the National Assembly finally makes actions to end the differences between the colored and whites, and to have the ability to give full rights to all people. All people are then equal. The National Assembly, which is made up of the estates, then began to make these changes, and started the way towards ending slavery and makes all men equal.
  • March on Versailles

    The Women and some men of France were marching to Versailles, demanding food for their families. Some of the people from the group went after the King and his family, demanding the resources for their families. The result of this ended with the King announcing to all of his people that he would be leaving Versailles with his wife and children to Paris, never to return.
  • The Colony "Saint-Domingue" is abolished

    This is a revolution that abolished the slavery in Saint- Domingue, and later brought Haiti their independence. This is considered a consequence of The French Revolution, for the idea that things hadn't gone the way that they were initialy planned.
  • Reign of Terror

    The Reign of Terror was lead by Maxmilien Robespierre. This consisted of the killing of 20,000- 40,000 people. The result of this reign was France creating a larger army that helped France rebuild and fight against other things that came upon them.
  • Beheading of King Louis the XIV

    King Louis the XIV was found guilty of treason in France, after many pieces played against his favor. After being found by the people of France, the death penalty was voted onto King Louis. He was then guillotined in front of the people of France.
  • Napoleon is Emperor

    Napoleon Bonaparte was the backup after King Louis the XIV was executed,Napoleon became a military hero, after defending France against armies. He then moved on to overthrowing the French Republic, and then took power as a dictator. This marked the end of the French Revolution. However, things began to turn around as Napoleon's reign re-established slavery in Saint Domingue.
  • French forces admit defeat to slave armies and evacuate their forces

    The slave armies that began to gain up on French Armies grew extremely strong, and caused the French armies to back down their forces, showing the slaves that they defeated them easily. France lost over 50,000 men in their military efforts.
