People were not getting the bread they needed. It was a necessary item in the French diet. Women expected Louis to provide them with cheap bread.

Government took over Church's lands and sold them to pay off their own debt. Priests became state officials. Took away a lot of power.

Royal family tries to run away, most people were against them, especially Louis. They are caught near the border and sent back, his enemies were now stronger.

Louis accepted the new constitution, he still had executive power, but a new branch of the government was made. The Legislative Assembly was incharge of making laws and declaring war.
