  • Montgomery bus boycott

    Montgomery bus boycott
    A political and social protest campaign against racial segregation on the public transportation system of Montgomery, Alabama. It was one of most biggest movements in the civil rights era. The campaign lasted from December 5, 1955-December 20, 1956. After Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to surrender her seat to a white person, the federal ruling Browder V. Gayle took effect and led to a U.S supreme court decision that declared the Montgomery laws that segregated buses were unconstitutional.
  • Little Rock Crisis

    Little Rock Crisis
    It was a group of Nine African American students that were supposed to go to Little rock central high school in 1957. Them being enrolled caused the Little rock crisis where students were prevented from entering the racially segregated school by Orval Faurbus who was the governor of Arkansas. They were allowed to enter the school though, after President Eisenhower got in on the issue and forced the governor to allow them into the school.

  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    Eisenhower Doctrine
    This allowed a middle eastern country to request American economic assistance and/or aid from the U.S. Military forces if it was being threatened by another country that was affiliated with the Soviet Union. Eisenhower had specifically singled out the Soviet Union as the main threat. He was trying to save the middle east from being controlled by the Soviet Union.

    Affirmative Action
    It favored individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously. It allowed minorities to have a higher chance to get in to schools and colleges. It was signed by John F. Kennedy and didn't allow government employees to discriminate against an employment of someone's race, religion, and or origin.

    March on Washington
    The March was held in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, August 28 1963. The purpose of the March was to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African-Americans. Martin Luther King Jr also delivered his "I have a dream" speech standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial in which he called for an end to racism. It was organized by A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin.

    A set of domestic programs in the United States launched by democratic president Lyndon B. Johnson from 1964-1965. The main goal was to totally eliminate poverty and racial injustice in the country. It instituted federally sponsored social welfare programs.

    Black Panther party
    The Black Panther party which was made for self-defense and was an African-American revolutionary party, formed in 1966 in Oakland, California. It was created by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. The Party's original purpose was to keep African-American neighborhoods safe and to protect residents from the acts of police brutality. They carried weapons around and supported Malcolm X's pledge of self defense.

    The movement was a Native American advocacy group in the United states which was created in July 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was first formed to address Native American affirmation treaty issues, spirituality, and leadership while also addressing issues like police harassment and racism against natives that were forced to move away from their reservations.

    It was a serious of surprise attacks that was conducted by the Vietcong and also North Vietnamese forces on cities and towns throughout south South Vietnam. It was considered to be a turning point in the Vietnam war. It was also one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam war.

  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    One of the most horrific incidents of violence committed against unarmed civilians during the Vietnam war. American soldiers brutally killed most of the people including women, children, and old men in the village of My Lai on March 16, 1968. More than 500 people were slaughtered in the massacre and women were even raped before being killed.

    It was a proposed amendment to the U.S constitution that stated that civil rights may not be denied on the basis of gender. It was designed to help Women especially and African-Americans gain their equality rights. It was denied a few decades before but after the revival of feminism, the law was again proposed and then finally passed.
