Hippies started due to being against the war, protested. Many of the people protesting against war also protested against segregation before. They were part of counterculture, did a lot of drugs and were "sexually liberated". This was how they got AIDS another problem a little after 1960. They were caught wiretapping phones and stealing documents.Those people were connected to President Nixon's reelection campaign. Nixon tried to cover up the crime but couldn't so he resigned once the whole truth was out. This scandal changed how Americans looked at their leaders.
