    The Great Fear was a period of panic and riot by the citizens of france. It was started by a conspiracy that the King & Queen were going to overthrow the 3rd Estate.

    A symbol of action during the start of the French Revolution, where rebels stormed the prison to destroy the artillary and weapons.
  • Women march on Versailes

    Women march on Versailes
    Women marched to Versailles to protest the shortage of bread. They broke into the palace and killed guards demandeing the King and Queen to leave for paris
  • King and Queen attempt to flee

    King and Queen attempt to flee
    The King and Queen disguised themselves as peasants to leave france to the border of Austria. They were caught by townspeople and the country saw Louis as "abandoning" his country.

    A short-lived constitution that set up a limited monarcy for France.
    It protected private property and supported free trade.

    The radicals abolished the monarchy and made France a republic. They immediatley seized land from the nobles and called for the election of a new legislative body called the National Convention.

    Louis XIV was proven guilty as a traitor & commiting treason. He was put to death by the guillotine from the motives of his own people.

    Violent killings were spurred by Robespierre, who signed orders for executions. Riots against the republic began, and many people were falsely executed or died in prisons.

    Marie-Antoinette was acused of incest and alliances outside of France with Austria. She was paraded in an open cart through the streets of Paris before her execution. Her death was not as significant to the citizens of France as that of her husband.

    Even though Robespierre succeeded in the dechristianization of France, he wanted a decree passed by the convention, that established a official religion. This religion was known as the Cult of the Supreme being.

    Napolean became powerful enough to be the new Emperor of France. His coronation was of signifcance, because he physically "crowned" himself, unlike the other emperors before him.
