    BCE. Euclid was a mathematician in ancient Greece. He might have been a student in Plato's academy. He was the founder of geometry and he is important because Euclid's "Elements" is the basis of geometry in our school textbooks.

    Aristotle died in Chalcis

    Aristotle died in Chalcis
    BCE. He was born as a son of Nichomachus, a court physician of the Macedonian royal family. In 367 he was sent to Athens to study philosophy with Plato. They worked in the academy together and when Plato died he took over the academy for a short while. He went to Asia to study biology and when he returned to Athens, he opened an academy "Lyceum". He is important because he has connection with some famous people in Ancient Greece such as Plato and he even taught Alexander the Great.

    BCE. Alexander III was the king of Macedonia being the son of Phillip the second, also was a king. He was the conqueror of Persian Empire which was one of the greatest military. His death is still a big mystery, some believe he died from some kind of infection but most people believe that he was assassinated. He was important because he was one of the best leaders in all history.

    The Peloponnesian War begins

    The Peloponnesian War begins
    BCE. The Peloponnesian was held between Athenians and Spartas. Spartans wanted to end the Athenian maritime empire. The war finally ended in 404 BC, by Athenians losing their power. Spartans won because of their stronger army even it was smaller than Athenians. This event is important because after the war the empire of Athens had to sign a truce called the Thirty Years'. This caused the Athens to extend its empire.

    First Olympic Games
    BCE. The first record of Olympic Games took place in Olympia. It was held every 4 years during the full moon of midsummer. People who participated in the games were called "Olympaid". Ancient Greeks wanted to win because they wanted to be highly honored. Olympic was known as a peaceful event; even in 480BC battles were put aside during the Persian wars. This event is important to us because Olympics is something we still have and it is good to know the origin of it.

    Plato opens an academy
    In 380 BCE in Athens, Plato funded his own philosophical school an academy for teaching students mathematic, philosophy and science. It became very famous to the Neoplatonists. It was finally closed in 526 AD by Emperor Justinian. It is important because he thought that everything should be proven by mathematics (not with god/goddesses stories which is commonly what Ancient Greeks believed).
