A group of nobles and army officers tried to overthrow the Czar in hopes of setting up a constitutional monarchy. Nicholas I crushed the revolt, executed five leaders publically and sent thousands to exile.

Czar Alexander II during his ruling emancipates or frees the serfs. The serfs were the peasants who worked for the nobles and were basically slaves. He allowed them to buy their own land over a fifty year period. ( Month and day are not accurate.)

A man threw a bomb under his carriage, it only minorly hurt Alexander. He got off the carriage and a second man threw a bomb at Alexander's feet which ended up killing him. He was killed because the men wanted greater land reform.

This war was considered the "first great war of the 20th century". It went from February 8, 1904 to September 5, 1905. It was between Russia and Japan. Russia was expected to easily win, but instead were easily defeated by the Japanese. Russia had to transport all their troops and supplies all the way across Russia on a single train.

A Russian Orthodox Priest by the name of Father Gapon led a peaceful march of 200,000 workers to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Soldiers were given orders to move in and shoot at the unwielded crowd. 100 people died and 3000 were wounded. It was named bloody sunday because of the blood stained snow.

The Revolution of 1905 was a wave of social and political turmoil that spread through the Russian Empire. Some of it was directed against the government and some was undirected. It led to constitutional monarchy, the Duma, the multi-party system, and the Russian Constitution of 1906.

Czar Nicholas was enforced to abdicate his throne because of his son being sick which means he gave up being a Czar. Czardom was then ended in Russia.

The March Revolution happened from March 8-12 in 1917. Riots broke out in Petrograd which was formerly St. Petersburg. It was on of the first revolutions in 1917.
